It comes after Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt called on the Federal Government to scuttle HMAS Tobruk in the area to provide a "diving into history" experience.

Mr Pittt tabled a petition in Parliament on Wednesday with 4042 signatures calling for the ship to be scuttled.

The petition from the Wide Bay Burnett Regional Dive Wreck Advisory Group, local residents, business owners and tourists draws to the attention of the House the need for a new tourist attraction.
