A bottler of a way to make quirky dolls

THE Rag Bay Dolly Club had a special guest at their last meeting, Wilma Simmons, who came all the way from Newcastle to do a workshop and introduce the club to another way of doll making.

Using glass bottles and clay, the women created a range of cute and quirky dolls - including one doll that was a caricature of Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott.

Club member Judy Stricklen said it was a great experience and the group was thrilled with their creations.

Ms Stricklen created a doll using a moon-shaped bottle and a clay star, which came together to make the doll.

She said the group had featured a cloth doll section at this year's Fraser Coast Show, but there had only been 10 entires.

"It was very disappointing. We've had up to 50 or 60 entries some years," she said.

Ms Stricklen said more members were always welcome at the club, which meets every month at the Hervey Bay Community Centre.

The club's next meeting will be held on July 9 from 9am.
