PBR: Herden's life-long love for bull riding

THE last time Damian Herden rode Filthy Rotten he was left to feel exactly that when he hit the dirt.

The date was July 18, 2015.

Competing as part of the Touring Pro Division at the Last Cowboy Standing, the Capella cowboy had a chance to make an impression.

WHAT'S ON: Sand to be dumped and bulls delivered for PBR

Herden held on for 3.37 seconds but there was no way Filthy Rotten was going to let the man from the Central Highlands better him at Brisbane Entertainment Centre.

The 24-year-old drew Filthy Rotten for his second of two rides at Pro Bull Riding Australia's Rural Weekly Live Series event at Hervey Bay's Seafront Oval tomorrow, and Herden said he wanted to conquer the beast.

He will also ride Man Child as he tries to continue the form that delivered second at Julia Creek on April 16 and a top five at Yass on April 12.

"I'm looking forward to it," he said of his return to Hervey Bay.

"We had a good pen of bulls (last year) and it's one of the best locations on the beach."

Herden, who grew up on a large property, got into the sport as a six-year-old.

"Dad used to ride saddle bronc horses at home and they ended up getting me into a poddy ride when I was six," he said.

"I've done it ever since."

He progressed through junior and rookie systems before he reached the PBR at Proserpine in 2009.

One of the biggest moments of his career came when he won an event at Yass last year, while a stint in the United States also reaped rewards.

"I've been to the US twice and won an event at San Antonio (Texas)," he said.

"It was pretty good to know I can compete against those guys. I'm focused on the Aussie titles at the moment but a lot of my travelling mates are over there at the moment."

Herden, a diesel fitter when he's not riding bulls, is one of 31 riders set for Saturday night's event.
