Eli Waters newsagency named in top four in Australia
A HERVEY Bay newsagency has been named in the top four agencies across Australia by magazine publisher Bauer Media.
NewsXpress in Eli Waters took out the fourth spot in the national awards last week after making it on to the top five shortlist.
NewsXpress owners Allan and Stella Wickham accepted the award at a special conference on the Gold Coast.
Mr Wickham said it was the first time the business had made it on to the shortlist for the award, which is determined by factors such as sales growth and magazine displays.
He said each agency that made it to the top 10 shortlist was then mystery-shopped by judges before the list was whittled down.
Mr Wickham said judges praised the growth at the business in the past few years.
"Five or six years ago we were a sub-agent," he said.
"They said, 'look, that's a fantastic achievement'."
Mr Wickham said the business was quite happy to make the top five, which included agencies from Gympie, Townsville and St Ives Village in New South Wales.
Bauer Media produces magazines such as The Australian Woman's Weekly, Woman's Day, House and Garden and other specialty magazines.
The award is run through its agency reward program, Connections with Bauer.
