Apply for funding from Anzac centenary grants program

VETERANS' organisations, schools, and community groups are being encouraged to apply for funding from the Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program by Federal Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss.

"The Centenary of Anzac will be one of the most significant national periods of commemoration in our nation's history," he said.

"This grants program will fund local projects that pay tribute to the men and women who served our nation, as well as honouring those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the defence of Australia's values and beliefs.

"The Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program supports local projects that commemorate the Centenary of Anzac.

"Projects may include special services and marches of veterans, re-enactments of recruiting marches, school education programs, refurbishing of memorials and honour boards, and the establishment of new places of commemoration and reflection.

"I encourage veterans organisations, schools and community groups to work together to plan for the Centenary of Anzac, and to consider how the sacrifices of Australia's service men and women can be commemorated."

Mr Truss said up to $125,000 was available to support Centenary of Anzac projects in the Wide Bay electorate.

A local Anzac Centenary Community Grants Committee will be formed in the coming weeks to provide advice and recommendations on applications made by the local community.

The applications and recommendations will then be submitted to the Department of Veterans' Affairs for further consideration.

"I will ask the committee to ensure that as many people as possible in Wide Bay are able to share and experience the projects that are funded through the Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program," Mr Truss said.

"This community grants program has been modelled on the highly-successful Australia Remembers 1945-1995 commemorations of the 50th anniversary or the end of World War II.

"This grants program provides an opportunity for our community to honour the nation-defining significance of Anzac."

Applications close on 31 January 2014.

Guidelines and application forms for the Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program are available from the One Stop Shop section of or by phoning 1300 301 968.
