Are uke ready to join a musical new Fraser Coast club?

YOU can tell Bill Ogden adores the ukulele because he abbreviates its name.

He calls it the "Uk'e".

Bill picked up the instrument that's stolen his heart four months ago and says it's saved him from making other mistakes.

"It's a midlife crisis, mate," he said.

"But I'm not hopping on a motorbike, I'm just following my musical dream.

"I always wanted to play the guitar and when I was younger I bought my three boys one each, they're fairly good now...and here I am, I've got the bottom lip out saying, 'I never got to play with them."

Now, Bill's got other dreams.

He wants to form a group for likeminded "Uk'e" enthusiasts - he wants to find somewhere they can gather to jam, talk strings and learn songs.

"I went to the music shop and the guy said: 'everyone wants to be in a group, but no one's kicked the ball', and I said: 'I'll kick the ball'," Bill said.
