Author follows her inner promptings to move to M'boro

EVANIA has travelled the world but says she loves Queensland - and Maryborough.

After visiting several times, she packed up and moved here two months ago.

The reiki and meditation teacher said she had followed her inner promptings to move to Maryborough.

"I love the atmosphere of Maryborough - love the old buildings - I love the slower established country town," Evania, who doesn't use a surname, said.

"I have met more people here in two months than I have the year I spent in Sydney."

The former Olympian, police officer and initiator of women's rights said she had a spiritual experience that changed the way she saw everything.

"It was self-discovery - I changed my name, it was a 360 degree turn," she said.

"I am a former journalist and love to write.

"While in Sydney I wrote a book - When the Student is Ready - it just came out.

"Since moving here, I have been volunteering at Yaralla Place Aged Care - I love that, (it's) very rewarding.

"A lot of these people are the pioneers and I want to write their histories.

"I'm also doing massage at Coconuts.

"I can't believe all the stuff I have done."

Evania said she was in "the happiest spot" she had ever been.

"I have hope for my future - my dreams have come true," she said.

"Maybe I'll be the next P.L. Travers - just give me an umbrella!"
