Baldwin's national triathlon campaign did not go to plan

IT WAS hard to avoid Todd Baldwin's disappointment.

The Hervey Bay teen was on fire in the intermediate male race.

He was in the top five during both the swim and bike legs, and when he took off for his strongest leg - the run - he looked to be a strong chance to podium.

But for those who waited near the finish it was the last they saw of the Xavier College student, who stopped halfway through his first lap.

Baldwin was simply out of gas, and hurting.

He managed to collect his energy reserves and finish the race, which he later said was "all that mattered".

Baldwin is already eyeing next year's regional, state and national championships where he will try to finish on top of his class.
