Hervey Bay Aquatic Centre to close during school holidays
THE Hervey Bay Aquatic Centre will be closed during the July school holidays for repairs to the 25m heated pool and the hydrotherapy pool.
The project includes repairs to sections of the pebblecrete floor in the 25m pool and completely resurfacing the hydrotherapy pool.
Sport and recreation portfolio councillor Darren Everard said the centre would shut down only while the 25m pool was out of operation and open as soon as it was available again for swimming.
He said staff would start emptying the 25m pool at noon on June 28 and should have it back open by the end of the week.
"The repair job and time is quite small but the refill and rebalancing will take a few days," Cr Everard said.
"We decided to undertake the work in the winter school holidays because it is a traditionally quiet time at the centre.
"At the same time a new electronic sign will be installed at the front entrance, structural work for shades will be installed, the concourse will be cleaned and the first stage of a new coffee seating area will be installed.
"The pool will look fabulous in time for term three and the summer peak season.
"Any patrons who would still like to swim are welcome to use their passes at the Maryborough Aquatic Centre.
"The squad swimmers will also train in Maryborough during the shutdown."
