Boats to fill the Strait for charity cruise

BOATS will fill Hervey Bay this weekend for the 14th annual Cruise for Charity.

Hervey Bay Boat Club Yacht Squadron members have invited “yachties” from beyond the Fraser Coast to join them on a weekend they cruise for the Chronicle/Observer Trophy.

Trailable yachts, keelboats and multi-hulls are all eligible for the trophy, for which they will compete on Sunday.

Last year’s event raised $6000 for the Rotary Club Of Hervey Bay Sunrise and other local charities, and the club’s members hope to raise more this weekend.

The course will take boats from the Marina, out to Urangan Pier, around Big Woody Island and back to the pier.

The Boat Club will host an event at the Marloo Room on Saturday night, with tickets from $25.

Places on the Amroo are also available for Sunday.
