Bonsai talk and twilight tour at botanic gardens

THE Hervey Bay Orchid House is branching out with a bonsai talk and twilight tour this month.

On Wednesday, August 13, Taffy Haines will share more than 25 years of bonsai cultivating experience to visitors of all ages from 10am to 11.30am.

Horticulturalist Darryl Coombes said Taffy had always had a big passion for small trees.

"Taffy has a large collection of award- winning bonsai in various stages of establishment and will be bringing some along to demonstrate this rewarding art form," he said.

Visitors are also encouraged to bring along their own bonsais and Taffy will advise how to care for and shape them.

Entry is $2 and includes a cup of tea or coffee.

The activities will continue when the sun goes down on Thursday, August 21, for a Twilight Tour of the Botanic Gardens.

Visitors are asked to bring along a torch, wear covered shoes and be prepared to see the gardens in a whole new light.

Entry is $5 per person and includes a sausage sizzle and drink.

Places are limited so bookings are essential by phoning the Orchid House on 4125 9870.
