Pedestrian-cyclist bridge to join street in Pt Vernon

A BRIDGE for pedestrians and cyclists will be built over a creek to link the two sides of Dougan St at Point Vernon.

"The bridge will give residents pedestrian access to the beach at Eli Creek and Gatakers Bay," Fraser Coast Regional councillor Trevor McDonald said.

"At present they have to go a long way out of their way or drive to the beach."

Construction works will start on the $150,000 project to install the 2.5m-wide bridge and footpaths late next week.

Cr McDonald, who holds the council's infrastructure and planning portfolio, has contributed $50,000 of his discretionary funding towards the project.
