Buderim students win every category of the OptiMinds
Buderim Mountain State School students have taken home five awards at this year's regional OptiMinds competition.
The school entered nine teams into the creative problem-solving competition and won each of the three categories: Language and Literature, Science and Engineering, and Social Sciences. Additionally, a Buderim Mountain State School team won honours in Social Sciences, and the winning Language and Literature Team also took home the Spirit of OptiMinds award for outstanding effort and attitude.
"Each year our students get a lot out of the competition," says Buderim Mountain State School principal, Neil Jenkins.
"The children really enjoy the process of creating and developing their entries and put a lot of work into them. It's great to see their hard work and determination rewarded."
This year's competition was a little different to previous years, with COVID-19 restrictions turning the usually live event, digital-competing schools submitted pre-recorded entries for review by a judging panel.
Buderim Mountain State School has an impressive track-record with the annual competition, and last year won seven awards in the regional event as well as the National Language and Literature category.
This year's winning teams will advance from the regional level and compete at the state competition in mid-October. This event will also be digital, with teams submitting a pre-recorded long-term project challenge as well as a spontaneous challenge issued by the judging panel.
