Bulldogs stand firm over Griffen and GWS trade

WESTERN Bulldogs president Peter Gordon said skipper Ryan Griffen was going nowhere after the 28-year-old dropped a bombshell by telling the club he wanted to play elsewhere.

Gordon responded in a statement to Griffen's request for a move to GWS, saying the club was disappointed at his approach and had "no intention of indulging it".

The president said Griffen had raised concerns about coach Brendan McCartney after the club's best and fairest, but following a round-table meeting, the star midfielder agreed he could keep working with McCartney.

"Having returned to Australia on Tuesday night and without any further discussion with us after giving that agreement, Ryan informed us that he had changed his mind," the statement read.

In other trade news, Carlton forward Jeff Garlett is heading to Melbourne. The Demons will hand over picks 61 and 79, while they will get selection 83 from the Blues.
