Butchulla elder hosts food talk

BUTCHULLA elder Nai Nai Bird has spoken at a native bush foods education session in Gunalda.

The Land for Wildlife meeting was sponsored by the Gympie Regional Council and the Mary River Catchment Co-ordinating Committee.

"The tribal area had a lot of good food sources," Ms Bird said.

"The Butchulla were also a 'sea' tribe that meant we could have fish from the sea."

The Butchulla territory was fortunate to include two staple food sources, the Bunya nut and the Bauple or macadamia nut.
