THE Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre celebrated a quarter of a century of helping our community with a big cream cake for volunteers and supporters on Tuesday.

The not-for-profit group has more than 50 events planned for the year ahead and boasts about 250 volunteers involved in various programs through the centre.

Spokeswoman Angela Kelly said each month of 2014 had its own theme with January serving as the group's launch month.

"A share of our new programs are starting this month," Ms Kelly said.

February was to be a month for training.

The group's big functions were planned from March.

Ms Kelly said providing a three-course meal for 100 of the Fraser Coast's most needy each Wednesday night was one of the newest and most rewarding programs run through the centre.

"The community donations and people who give up their time are really moving," she said.
