Challacombe rips through Australs in huge Grammars win

CRICKET: Dean Challacombe has long been one of Past Grammars' underrated bowlers, but the veteran showed he was still one to be feared.

Challacombe tore through an understrength Australs' line-up in Saturday's one-sided thrashing, taking 4-8 from seven overs of sublime bowling.

Grady McKay took 2-14 from six overs and Joel Jensen jagged 3-16 from two.

Challacombe's tight, economic and destructive bowling put the squeeze on an Australs side down on players, confidence and results.

Australs have generally been a contender in Fraser Coast and Maryborough cricket competitions, but are so far win-less after seven games.

Their season isn't over by any stretch, but they need to start winning games if they are to make the 40-Over finals.

Past Grammars, who chased the 73-run target in just 10 overs, retain their place atop the ladder after the eight-wicket win, just ahead of strongest rivals Bushrangers.
