CLUB ON A ROLL: Bingera is the best in Wide Bay
FOOTBALL: Meet the sporting side that is the best in Wide Bay this season.
The Bingera Football Club has the only team in a men's and women's senior competition in the region to win all their games in the league so far this year.
The men's side defeated Doon Villa on Saturday to move to seven wins, with no losses or draws, and remain on top in the Wide Bay Premier League.
The women have also won seven games in the league in Bundaberg division one to continue their extraordinary run across all competitions.
The side has not lost any of its past 54 matches and is unbeaten since 2016.
Both sides have also conceded just eight goals between them in 14 matches in the league and have only lost one match in all competitions, in the NewsMail Cup.
Bingera men's coach Brett Kitching said the secret to the club's success came from one thing they implemented during the off-season.
"We briefly spoke about it what to do to improve,” he said.
"We wanted to apply ourselves more and make it a more professional environment.”
The change has clearly worked with Bingera, putting it on show on Saturday against Doon Villa.
The Stripeys were able to beat Villa 4-0 in a top-of-the-table clash, at home, putting two goals past the Maryborough side in each half.
"We knew it was going to be tough,” he said. "But the squad is going great at the moment and we were able to win with three to four guys out.”
Kitching said the improvement in the side has come from how they play the game now.
"We've worked a lot on keeping possession and we can now get 10 to 12 passes completed before we attack, which makes the teams work harder to get the ball back,” he said.
"We also have versatility in the squad with players capable of chopping and changing.”
Kitching said the success for both sides was good but was reserved about talking it up.
"We're still not halfway through the season, we're not getting ahead of ourselves just yet,” he said.
"There's still a lot of hard work ahead of us and the start won't matter if we don't make it count towards the end of the season.”
Both teams have a bye this week.
