Collectors give the stamp of approval at philately fair

IF there's one thing Allan Topper knows a thing or two about, it's stamps.

The President of the Maryborough Wide Bay Philatelic Stamp Club and avid stamp enthusiast said the weekend's fair got the stamp of approval from collectors far and wide.

"The collections on show were good, but it's getting harder and harder to collect Australian stamps," he said.

"Most people don't use stamps anymore so it is harder to get your hands on new ones.

"It could slowly kill stamp collecting."

But the passion for stamps was clearly alive with collectors from across Queensland congregating to show off their expansive collections at the St Mary's Parish Hall.

"We had about 90 people attend, and thankfully the rain held off," Mr Topper said.

"People made sure to leave early so the rain wouldn't get on their stamps."
