Councillors keen to chat again after recent popularity

THE Fraser Coast Council is planning more community chat sessions after more than 500 people took advantage of a recent one.

Fraser Coast Mayor Gerard O'Connell said the response to Tuesday's event, which gave people an opportunity to talk to councillors about topics of their choice, was positive.

"A few of the councillors had prior commitments and couldn't attend but overall it was a very enjoyable day," Cr O'Connell said.

"It's no secret that I'm a very strong advocate of the community chats. As elected representatives, it's important for all councillors, myself included, to keep abreast of all issues affecting our residents.

"And there is no better way to really connect with the Fraser Coast community than to get out and speak with residents face to face."

Cr O'Connell said residents raised a number of topics including proposed changes to local laws, disaster management and road and infrastructure upgrades. He said the community chats were introduced last year.
