CRASH TRAGEDY: 'We have lost a champion'
THE Mary Valley football community is reeling from the news one of their most respected players was one of two men who died in a horror smash at Curra on the weekend.
Young Gympie man Bryce Brunjes-Kilshaw was reportedly killed instantly on Saturday night when the Mazda utility he was travelling in with a friend veered off Harvey Siding Rd and smashed into a tree at high speed.
Mary Valley Stags Rugby League Club vice president Aaron Parker said the news had hit the Stags community hard.
"It hits home pretty hard," he said.
"We have lost a champion."
Respected for his tough-as-nails grunt in the game, the all-rounder was equally respected off the field, Mr Parker said.
"He was a great bloke, you couldn't get nicer," he said.
"He was honest, tough and filled in where required."
Stags players took to the club's private Facebook page to pay tribute to Mr Brunjes-Kilshaw, Mr Parker said.
"Absolute legend - all round good bloke," the tributes read.
"Hard as nails, punched well above his weight," other players wrote, Mr Parker said.
"Great fella and even better bloke.
"Good bloke taken away so soon."
