Boat owners invited on familiarisation cruise of strait
ARE you a new boat owner on the Fraser Coast or do you need to brush up on knowledge of the Great Sandy Marine Park?
The Hervey Bay Boat Club Power Boat Squadron is holding its annual familiarisation cruise of the Great Sandy Strait.
Leaving the Boat Club on March 22 from 8.30am, the MV Amaroo will sail the water before returning at 12.30pm.
The boat will cruise to popular fishing spots such as the Artificial Reef, Picnic Islands, Fraser Island, Mickeys and Moon Ledge and GPS readings will be given at each spot.
Representatives of Hervey Bay Volunteer Marine Rescue outline their organisation, the correct use of radios and tips on how to navigate the area.
Brochures on the latest regulations on fish species, size, bag limits and fish identification will also be given out.
Representatives from Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service will also provide information.
Amaroo will also visit the wrecks on the artificial reef and sites of the recent pipe drops to observe any fish habitat.
A ticket to the cruise will cost $45 and it includes morning tea.
To book, phone the Hervey Bay Boat Club on 4128 9643.
