The Mary River only a cruise away for Bay folk

BEING able to take in the sights of the beautiful Mary River is now just a cruise away for Hervey Bay residents.

The Hervey Bay Boat Club's vessel, the Amaroo, is set to leave the Urangan Marina at 8am on the last Sunday of the month, with passengers taking a ride up the Mary River to Queens Park, where they will disembark for all the fun and games of Sunday in the Park.

Amaroo captain, Phil House, said the initial trial held on Australia Day was a resounding success.

"We had a great time ... the weather was perfect," Mr House said.

"Hervey Bay and Mary River showed off their beauty, while local historian Lindsay Titmarsh entertained us with commentary of the area and its history.

"We arrived at Sunday In The Park in plenty of time to enjoy the event."

A second group, which left the marina at 10am aboard Maryborough Tours, enjoyed an hour-long Historic Tour of Maryborough before arriving at Sunday In The Park.

Sunday in the Park activities include taking a ride on The Mary Ann Steam train, MELSA miniature train rides, entertainment by the excelsior band and a stroll around the stalls.
