CuddleCot gives parents more time to grieve
BRAVE Hervey Bay mum Jodie Tangikara is raising funds to purchase a CuddleCot system for Hervey Bay Hospital.
The CuddleCot system was designed for stillborn babies and had a cooling pad that could be placed in any cot, pram or bed, giving parents a more time with the child they have lost rather than the child having to be taken away after a few hours.
The problem was that in a warm room the baby's condition could deteriorate quickly which parents often found distressing so cooling the baby was necessary.
Ms Tangikara's baby boy Marcus was stillborn at 19 weeks and five days on September 22, 2012.
She said having additional time with him would have helped her grieve.
"I only had a few precious hours with our son Marcus," she said. "If I had the opportunity to spend more time with him, I would take it in a heartbeat."
So far, Ms Tangikara has raised about $2000 through an online auction, but $4000 is needed to purchase the CuddleCot system.
