Date set for M'boro Safety Network night walk

THE date has been set for members of the Maryborough Safety Network to walk through the city - Thursday night, April 16.

Safety network chairman and councillor Daniel Sanderson said they wanted to look at the city at night to see if there were any lighting or safety issues.

The safety network included representatives from the council, police, business owners, community groups, schools, churches, residents, Job Services Australia, the Maryborough Chamber of Commerce and the Young Professionals.

"Initially we aim to conduct a night tour every six months," Cr Sanderson said while praising the work of police in combating crime across the Fraser Coast.

"There has been a decrease in assaults by 6% and arson by 45%.

"By conducting the night walk, the safety network can identify any hot spots around Maryborough that may need attention and show community support for the police and that we will not tolerate criminal activity."

Members of the network will meet at 10pm on April 16 at the Maryborough City Hall.

The Maryborough Safety Network meets every six weeks in the committee room at the Maryborough City Hall.

The next meeting will be held on May 28 from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.
