Dressage club of the year ready for its biggest event

HORSE SPORTS: This is the moment the Maryborough Active Riders Group has waited for all year.

The club, named 2017's Dressage Club of the Year, will host the biggest event on its calendar this weekend, as almost 100 horses and more than 70 riders converge on Maryborough Equestrian Park for the Fraser Coast 2** Dressage Championships.

Dressage assistant Karl Malmros, himself a competitor aboard Shandien, said it took months of hard work to organise the event, which welcomes a dramatic increase in entries.

"I think it's growing each year,” Malmros said. "A lot of riders are coming from a fair distance and bringing a number of horses each.”

Malmros said the freestyle event, which features dressage and music, is one not to be missed. Competition will run from 8am to 8.30pm today, and 7.30am to 4pm tomorrow.
