Every day should be a fun for under 8s

HERVEY Bay's botanic gardens were teeming with children yesterday - in prams, slings, wheelchairs or pulling on a carer's hand.

The Under 8s Fun Day in the Park saw hundreds of kids and their teachers, parents and carers descend on the park to play, run, make music, paint and get painted.

Wide Bay TAFE and Urangan State High School students were kept busy through the morning painting hundreds of tigers, spiders, butterflies and flowers on to little faces.

Other popular activities were the spray painting wall, bubbles and the obstacle course.

Bunnings staff manned a plant stall where children could plant a seedling in a mini greenhouse made from a plastic bottle.

Event organiser Lisa Cooper was praying for a clear day after the 2008 fun day was cancelled because of rain.

The free event held to celebrate Under 8s Week went full steam ahead as predicted showers failed to appear yesterday morning.
