REVEALED: Major new attraction announced for Fraser Coast
A MAJOR new attraction is sure to have Fraser Coast fun-seekers in a spin.
The Chronicle can exclusively reveal the nation's largest transportable ferris wheel will call Hervey Bay home from next week.
The ride, called SkyLine, will be set up on the Esplanade at Pialba beside the All Abilities and Adventure Playgrounds from Friday September 6 to Sunday November 3.
Fraser Coast mayor George Seymour said the council had been working with Xtra Ordinary Events to find a suitable location for the SkyLine ferris wheel to operate on the Fraser Coast.
"SkyLine is Australia's tallest transportable ferris wheel standing at 35 metres high with 24 enclosed gondolas that can carry up to 144 people," Cr Seymour said.
"The wheel was recently set up in Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast where it proved a great drawcard for tourists and locals alike. We're hoping it will be a similarly successful attraction on the Fraser Coast where it will provide fantastic 360 degree views of Hervey Bay and Fraser Island."
Cr Seymour said the Pialba Esplanade Precinct was the "foreshore presence of Hervey Bay's emerging CBD".
He said the addition of a ferris wheel for two months would be a boost for the area.
"There is so much happening at the Pialba precinct with Wetside re-opening for the 2019/20 season next Wednesday, September 4, Seafront Oval having just undergone an extensive makeover and the skate park opening within weeks," he said.
"These attractions, along with the magnificent playgrounds, have injected colour, fun and excitement into this part of the foreshore at Pialba, helping draw visitors both locally and from afar."
Tickets, purchased on site or at skylineattractions.com.au, will be $10 per person (with children two years and under riding for free), $8 for seniors or $30 per gondola.
