WATCH AND ACT - MYALL CREEK FIRE

A bush fire is burning in the Mount Marsh, Tullymorgan, Mororo Road, Ashby Heights and the Woombah areas. The fire is more than 93,270 hectares in size and is out of control.

Current Situation

  • The main fire is burning in a southerly direction towards the Clarence/North Arm River.
  • A separate section of the fire is burning in the Mororo Road area.
  • Fire is also burning in the area north of Glencoe Road, east of the Pacific Highway.
  • Conditions and fire activity eased significantly overnight.
  • Iluka Road and Old Murrayville Road is now closed. The Pacific Highway is currently open. Check www.livetraffic.com for road information.
  • A southerly wind change is predicted to reach the fireground in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Advice

  • If you are in the areas of Ashby Heights, Ashby, Woombah, Iluka, Mount Marsh, Six Mile Swamp Road, Fullers Road, Whiporie, Tullymorgan, New Italy, Camira Creek and Old Tenterfield Road, monitor conditions, follow the direction of firefighters in the area and enact your bush fire survival plan.
  • If you are in the areas of Chatsworth, Palmers Island, Maclean and Woodford, watch out for smoke and embers.
  • If you have left the area it may still not be safe to return.
  • If you are in an area that has already been affected by fire, there may be small areas of active fire burning for some time. Be aware of the dangers of trees and branches falling.

If you are threatened by fire

  • Do not be in the path of the fire.
  • Protect yourself from the heat of the fire. Wear protective clothing and footwear. Cover all exposed skin.
  • If the fire impacts, seek shelter in a solid structure to protect yourself from the heat of the fire.

WASHPOOL STATE FOREST - WATCH AND ACT

A bush fire is burning in the Washpool State Forest. The fire is more than 76,000 hectares in size and is being controlled.

Current Situation

  • Fire activity has increased in the west of the Washpool National Park.
  • Storm activity is expected to impacted the fireground, approaching from the South East, which may cause erratic fire behaviour.

Advice

  • If you are in the area of Rocky River Road, west of the Timbarra River, your plan is to leave and the path is clear, leave in an easterly direction towards Tenterfield.
  • Follow your bush fire survival plan. If you do not have a bush fire survival plan, know what you will do if the fire threatens your property.

Fire activity has increased across the fireground and the fire is moving towards properties in the Ashby Heights and Woombah area.
The main fire is expected to burn in a southerly direction towards the Clarence/North Arm River.
A separate section of the fire is burning in the Mororo Road area.
Fire activity has increased in the areas of Middle Street and Emu Street in Woombah. Firefighters, supported by waterbombing aircraft, are working to protect properties.

Fire activity is increasing in the area. A number of spot fires have started ahead of the fire front. Residents in Ashby Heights and Woombah should protect themselves from the heat of the fire and seek shelter as the fire approaches.

  • Backburning is continuing around the Woombah area and along Iluka Road to the coast today to protect properties.
  • The main fire is expected to burn in a southerly direction towards the Clarence/North Arm River.
  • A separate section of the fire is burning in the Mororo Road area.
  • Fire activity has increased in the areas of Middle Street and Emu Street in Woombah. Firefighters, supported by waterbombing aircraft, are working to protect properties.

SITUATION  

Fire behaviour was stable overnight and provided opportunities for back burning operations particularly around the Woombah area.  Back burning along the Iluka Road and near Mangrove Creek Road will continue through the morning to assist in the protection of community assets in the area.  Stronger northerly winds are expected today which will see an increase in active fire on the southern boundary particularly in the Woombah, Tullymorgan, Ashby Heights and Mororo Road areas. 

People in Woombah, Ashby and Ashby Heights need to activate their Bushfire Survival Plans and if your plan is to leave, leave towards Maclean or Grafton.  Residents of Iluka are advised that the Iluka Road is currently open under traffic control and to exercise caution and drive to conditions.  Firefighters are back burning east of Woombah however the road could be closed at short notice if conditions deteriorate. 

If you have left the area it may not be safe to return.

Firefighting Crews will continue to actively defend property and infrastructure in challenging conditions, supported by water bombing aircraft and heavy machinery.  Stay alert, monitor conditions and check your bushfire survival plan and be prepared to take action. 

The Pacific Highway and the Summerland Way are currently open, but be aware that road restrictions may be in place and the roads may be closed at short notice.

  • If your plan is to leave, leave early towards Maclean or Grafton  Put your Bush Fire Survival Plan into action - Do not expect a fire truck at your property.
  • Keep informed, watch out for changing conditions and check your Bush Fire Survival Plan. If you don't have a plan, decide now what you will do.
  • Take care on the roads, there will be smoke and other dangers. There are road closures in place - do not try to take back roads around the closures. You may put yourself in further danger. Roads may be closed at short notice.

ADVICE - MYALL CREEK FIRE (9am)

SITUATION  

Fire behaviour was stable overnight and provided opportunities for back burning operations particularly around the Woombah area.   

Back burning along the Iluka Road and near Mangrove Creek Road will continue through the morning to assist in the protection of community assets in the area.   

Stronger northerly winds are expected today which will see an increase in active fire on the southern boundary particularly in the Woombah, Tullymorgan, Ashby Heights and Mororo Road areas.    People in Woombah, Ashby and Ashby Heights need to activate their Bushfire Survival Plans and if your plan is to leave, leave towards Maclean or Grafton.
