Expect flash flooding on Friday and Saturday

EXPECT flash flooding in the next 24 to 48 hours, Mayor Gerard O'Connell has warned people on the Fraser Coast.

The disaster management group held its first meeting on Thursday and discussed the best ways to handle the impact of Cyclone Marcia.

Cr O'Connell said based on information from the Bureau of Meteorology, locals should prepare for flash flooding.

He said the hospitals were also making preparations, but in some cases access to a hospital might not be possible," he said.

"Hospitals are getting prepared such as moving dialysis patients closer to the equipment they need.

"But one thing I do want the public to consider is getting their medical scripts filled early because a lot of people don't think about that until it's too late."

He said it was too early to tell where the most-affected areas would be.

"We still can't tell where exactly the cyclone will hit yet," Cr O'Connell said.

"But educated guesses can be made based on what's happened in the past and the data from the new weather gauges."

Cr O'Connell said there had been no evacuations yet.

"We just want people to continue preparing," he said.
