Fleming a key addition to Maryborough Brothers' ranks
THE chance to play A-grade rugby league and help mould another generation of local footballers was behind Kurt Fleming's decision to join Maryborough Brothers.
Fleming played at the Gympie Devils for 13 years.
His junior club, Fleming progressed through the ranks to win a grand final with the Devils in 2010.
The Devils have recently struggled for numbers, to the point they did not field a team in the Sunshine Coast - Gympie Rugby League A-grade competition.
"They couldn't get an A-grade side unfortunately so I thought I'd give the boys (at Brothers) a hand in their first year of A-grade," Fleming said.
"The goal is to play consistent football and get the boys prepared for A-grade in coming years."
Maryborough Brothers are still on the hunt for their first A-grade win of the year.
The club had high hopes after their 16-all draw against Easts Magpies, but fell 40-16 to Wests Panthers at Eskdale Park on Sunday.
Five-eighth Lyle Murgha, Nic Golusin and Joshua Ezzy scored the home side's tries, while Murgha converted two goals.
Maryborough Brothers will host The Waves Tigers on Saturday night.
The Waves won their second game of the season on Saturday after they beat Easts 30-12 at Salter Oval.
