Former editor among Fraser Coast award recipients

A FORMER editor of the Fraser Coast Chronicle, a group that raises funds for community projects and a storyteller are among the Fraser Coast Australia Day Award recipients.

A presentation ceremony will be held on Monday at 10.30am at the Brolga Theatre and Fraser Coast Regional Council Mayor Gerard O'Connell has invited everyone along to hear more about the award winners.

"Celebrating with them on Australia Day is a fantastic way to congratulate the award recipients and say thank you to them for their hard work and dedication," he said.

"The recipients are testimony to the dedication and enthusiasm people have to make the Fraser Coast such a vibrant and exciting place to live."

The Australia Day Awards will follow the Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony at 9am.

The Australia Day Award recipients are:

  • Community Group - Community Help Group
  • Community Event - Hervey Bay Historical Village and Museum September Special Day
  • Junior Sportsperson of the Year - Jessica Switzer
  • Sportsperson of the Year - Susan Pattel
  • Mayoral Commendation - Year 10 Boys Volleyball Team, Aldridge State High
  • Junior Cultural Award - Liam Taylor
  • Cultural Award - Glen Miller, storyteller
  • Junior Citizen of the Year - Denya Hopkins
  • Citizen of the Year - Nancy Bates, former Chronicle editor
