Former HACC staff struggling to find work in private sector
AFTER being sacked from the public system, former government health employees are now being shunned by the private sector.
Home and Community Care workers were encouraged to apply for employment opportunities in the private sector but they found non-government organisations were unwilling to take them on because of a provision in the Fair Work Act.
Under the Fair Work Act, employees who leave the public sector and are then hired by the private sector must be employed under the same rates and conditions if they are hired within a three-month period of leaving their public sector job.
Many of the private organisations are unwilling to meet the rates and conditions the workers were employed under by the State Government, leaving the health employees with nowhere to go when their jobs are terminated on Friday.
