Free wine tastings part of $10 Relish fest ticket price

A HOST of award-winning regional wineries from across the Wide Bay Burnett will offer free tastings as part of the $10 ticket price to the Relish Food and Wine Fest on Saturday, June 8.

They include:

  • Bellbird Vineyards
  • Kingsley Grove Estate
  • Vinter's Secret Vineyard
  • Moffatdale Ridge Wines
  • Crane Wines
  • Bridgeman Downs Cellars
  • Tipperary Estate
  • Sirromet Wines

"A lot of people don't realise we're lucky enough to have world-class vineyards right on our doorstep," councillor for events Darren Everard said.

"The Wide Bay Burnett Region is home to a growing number of boutique wineries that are really helping to put our region on the map including Vinter's Secret in Isis and Crane Wines in Kingaroy."

Mt Cotton-based Sirromet Wines has collected more than 500 national and international awards since opening its doors in 2000.

"Relish is a showcase of the finest local food, wine and regional produce our area has to offer and it's not to be missed."

Tickets are still available for a series of offsite attractions in the lead up to Relish Food and Wine Fest, including a four-course degustation lunch at Coast Restaurant and Bar in Hervey Bay on Saturday, June 1.

"The food is world class and will whet the appetite in the week leading up to Relish," Cr Everard said.

"The team at COAST were recently awarded the Diners Choice Award at the Queensland Good Guide Awards in Brisbane.

"COAST also retained its one-hat rating in the Good Food Guide, making it the only hat-rated restaurant between Noosa and Townsville and we're thrilled to have them on board for one of the most exciting events of the year."

Tickets are $85 per person and bookings can be made by phoning Coast on 4125 5454.

Villa Cavour Bed and Breakfast in Point Vernon will also present two gourmet cooking classes on Saturday and Sunday, June 1 and 2.

Cr Everard said head chef Rocco had worked in some the finest restaurants in Europe and would give participants all the skills to prepare some delicious Italian dishes.

"You don't have to be a master chef to come along and learn a few new skills from one of the best in the business," he said.

"Both cooking classes will be followed by a dinner and wine degustation and I'm expecting both of these events to prove very popular and set the tone for Relish."
