Fundraisers in the Bay and M'boro for typhoon victims

THE Filipino-Australian Fraser Coast Facahbd Assocation is holding fundraising events this weekend for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

An association spokeswoman said the first event would start 6am on Saturday, November 23, with a big garage sale followed by a sausage sizzle at 11am at 17 Howard St, Urangan. 

She said the sausages for the bargecue had been donated by Chris Couper Real Estate and garage sale hosts Rita and Steve Kopeniak.

Also on Saturday, the Hervey Bay Orchid Society Interested Growers Group is having a sausage sizzle and raffle at the Botanic Gardens in Elizabeth St, Urangan, at 11am.

The spokeswoman said on Sunday, November 24, the association would host a sausage sizzle and raffles in Scarness Park on the Esplanade starting at 9am.

"Please come along and help to raise some money for all the victims," she said.

"Christmas is coming, what sort of Christmas will it be for them?"

On Saturday, December 21, the Filipino choir of St Mary's Catholic Church is holding a fundraising concert at the parish hall in Bazaar St from 7pm.

Tickets are $5 and should be pre-booked and paid for through the Maryborough Neighbourhood Centre by 10am on Friday, December 20.

Food and drinks will be sold on the night and proceeds from the event will be forwarded to aid organisation Caritas.
