Get your application in if you want to be an apprentice

POTENTIAL recruits for Ergon Energy's next generation of power industry field and substation crews have only until Sunday week, September 28, to apply for an apprenticeship beginning early in 2015.

Chief executive Ian McLeod said this year's apprenticeship intake would include four positions at the Maryborough depot and two in Hervey Bay.

He said the apprenticeships were a great opportunity for people of all ages and backgrounds to learn a valuable trade.

"These apprenticeships are mostly offered to local people so they can develop their skills while remaining in the community with their family and friends," he said.

"The apprenticeships we offer each year reflect the changing needs of our workforce, and we have a strong focus on diversity and being representative of the communities we serve."

Apprenticeships are available in a range of trades - communications technician, distribution linesperson, transmission linesperson and electrotechnology electrician.

Several of the apprenticeships will be offered in conjunction with diploma or associate degree courses.
