Golf club members reject ambitious $5 million expansion plan

HERVEY Bay Golf Club members have voted down an ambitions plan to expand the existing course by up to 18 holes.

A plan was formulated by Fraser Coast developer Bob Goodwin which would have seen the course expand to accommodate more players as our population grows.

"We have about 640 members from a population of 47,555 which is 1.3% of our population," he said last week.

"If we then consider the projected population by year 2036 which is 65,943 should give us 887 members.

"Our golf course won't be able to handle this number of members without expansion."

Mr Goodwin estimated the total cost of development would be about $5 million.

But the plan will not become reality after the golf club's members voted against the proposal during the club's annual general meeting on the weekend.

Mr Goodwin said he had no hard feelings and would still continue playing golf at the course.
