Happiness, harmony and kindness for Neighbourhood Centre
IT'S a busy month for the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre, which has organised various events to promote kindness, happiness and harmony within the community.
International Happiness Day is celebrated worldwide on March 20 and the centre has planned a free event to create some smiles.
Support officer Robyn Edward said the event would include lifestyle coach and Zumba instructor Cheryl Virgo.
"She's a health and wellness coach so she'll be talking first up about how to be healthy and happy," she said.
"Then we'll try Zumba for 15 minutes and we'll have a short break for some herbal tea and water."
Ms Edward said Kerrie Marshall from Brainasize would teach attendees how to juggle, followed by a Maori rhythm sticks session and laughter yoga.
An Aussie morning tea will be held at the centre from 10am on March 21 to celebrate Harmony Day and this year's message of "everybody belongs".
Ms Edward said the centre would celebrate cultural diversity and it was hoped to portray Hervey Bay as a welcoming city.
"Bringing our communities together through food, music and entertainment plays an important role in promoting our cultural diversity," she said.
"It creates an opportunity to think, talk about and recognise how our differences and our similarities make Australia a great place to live."
Neighbour Day will be held on March 24, with the theme for this year "the importance of a supportive neighbourhood for children and young people".
The centre has encouraged the community to paint "kindness rocks" for an art piece and there will be a rock hunt with the chance to win $200.
