Hooked on aerial hoop fitness in Hervey Bay

SUSPENDED from the Torquay jetty, hanging effortlessly from hoops, these strong, fit women are proof persistence pays off.

The team from PhysiPole Studios Hervey Bay are part of a growing Aerial Hoops movement which uses circus-like training to tone bodies.

Studio Manager Peggy Bray said aerial hoops were first installed about 12 months ago and some of the regulars often gathered at the beach to test their skills.

"It's a good way for people to see what we do and it has become a bit of an outdoor tradition,” Peggy said.

"We enjoy having people come up for a look and if the weather is good enough and the hoops aren't too high people can have a go.”

"It's a good fitness workout that's a lot of fun at the same time.

"It opens a whole new level of strength and creativity... we've even had a semi-retired client who has fallen in love.

"She asked me 'are you ever too old to try?'

"The answer is no.”

As popularity grows, Peggy wants to incorporate Aerial Silks later in the year.

If you would like to try Aerial Hoops, you can this Sunday up until March 4.

The next term starts on March 5.
