Horrifying fire ant attack floors man

THERE aren't too many Northern Territory pests and critters that Kevin Hay says have ever given him a cause for concern.

A horrifyingly, ugly encounter with fire ants has changed all that.

Graphic images of pus filled wounds are the result of being attacked by an angry army of tropical fire ants while on an outing to the Hidden Valley mud races with his children Heather, 7, and Callum, 5.

So severe was the attack that it left Mr Hay unconscious and in need of urgent medical help.

"I have never experienced anything so scary in my life," Mr Hay said.
