Horse skills on show at M'boro

UP TO 1000 horse-lovers will take over the Maryborough Showgrounds next week as school students compete in the state-wide Interschool Equestrian Championships.

The four-day competition from June 27 will host over 400 riders and their families.

All five interschool disciplines will be on show, such as dressage, show jumping, showman, showhorse and combined training.

The championship is the only event held by Equestrian Queensland that allows school children to compete against other schools in their age group as a horse/rider combination.

The event is a boon for the Maryborough equestrian community, with Olympic Gold Medallist David Green set to host a clinic for Pony Club members this weekend.

Green helped Australia win the eventing team event at the 1992  Barcelona Olympics and will share his knowledge with young riders on the Fraser Coast.
