Hungerford’s heading in right direction

DIVISION 7 Councillor Ted Hungerford says he's feeling "more confident" as vote counting progresses, as he extended his lead on first preferences.

After 50.86 per cent of the votes had been counted in the division, Cr Hungerford had secured 41.19 per cent, ahead of Cam Young (21.87 per cent), Steve Dickson (20.26 per cent) and Chris White (16.68 per cent).

Cr Hungerford said he wasn't expecting a high preference count, and felt better about the trend now than he had on election night, after only a small portion of votes had been counted in what's proven to be a marathon tally.

Elsewhere, senior detective Daren Edwards had closed the gap on Maria Suarez, with about 380 votes the difference between them in Division 9.

It was expected it would be some time before winners were declared, with postal and phone votes still to be counted, with Divisions 2, 4, 5, 8, 9 and 10 still too close to declare a winner.

Official results were still being compiled by Electoral Commission Queensland staff.
