Hunt on for artists to join Fraser Coast arts alliance
CALLING all artistic residents - the Fraser Coast Region Arts Alliance is looking for members.
Alliance steering committee chairman Graeme Roberts said a membership brochure had been created and a membership drive had started
"This is a giant step towards formalization," he said.
"The steering committee has released a brochure detailing plans and membership details.
"It is available by email or can be picked up from the Brolga Theatre, Gatakers Artspace or the Hervey Bay Cultural Centre and includes a membership application form.
"At the moment there is a $10 fee to join the unincorporated association.
"All those members will be eligible to stand for election to the committee of management of the incorporated association that will be formed at a meeting to be held on Tuesday, 18 February.
"We hope people will send in their applications. Without members we cannot go any further.
"The steering committee has investigated several structures for the arts alliance to follow, and has drawn up a draft constitution which will be presented to the February meeting.
"An interactive website is also being developed for use by all the arts across the region."
Cultural and performing arts portfolio councillor Phil Truscott said the steering committee has put in a tremendous amount of work.
"We are really starting to move forward," he said.
"There are so many arts groups across the Fraser Coast and we encourage everyone to attend the next meeting. We've found that sometimes these groups might struggle to get their message out into the community.
Through the arts alliance, we're aiming to change that and ensure all groups have their voices heard - whether that's to boost the profile of the arts and local artists, help artists get gigs to improve their income as well as fight for funding.
"The alliance is not a new program. It is a co-ordinating and facilitating body to aid the thousands of people in the region who participate in the arts, crafts and music in any form and give them a combined voice and a co-ordination point.
"If you are interested in seeing the arts, crafts and cultural affairs progress and receive the recognition it deserves, then please join us."
The date, time and venue of the public meeting for the formation of the incorporated association will be announced soon.
