EDITORIAL: Intersection crashes now slow motion
EDITORIAL: Ted Sorensen's promised upgrade of the Urraween Rd and Maryborough-Hervey Bay Rd intersection can't come soon enough.
The Member for Hervey Bay announced the upgrade as part of a $27.8 million cash splash just two weeks before the election - and now that he's been re-elected, we can hope it'll happen sooner rather than later.
The intersection has long been a blackspot for drivers, and even prompted a drop in the speed limit from 80kmh to 60kmh last October, but it doesn't seem much different.
Travelling the Maryborough Bay Rd twice a day, I've personally seen two crashes there since the limit was changed, and another crash today has shown that drivers still can't seem to handle the crossroad.
With slower moving traffic, it seems drivers are getting impatient with the congestion and acting irrationally, because there's no other excuse to have a crash there.
The only small mercy is that now when the inevitable bingle happens, at least they're going more slowly.
The finer details of the upgrade haven't been released yet, but I'm sure all drivers hope it's a significant work - I'd love to see a roundabout put in place to keep traffic flowing.
Come on Ted, put your pedal to the metal and let's get this upgrade moving.
