Pubs expected to be packed for State of Origin

IT'S that time of the year again, when diehard supporters and those who pretend to care about football don their maroon jerseys and cheer themselves hoarse for 80 minutes.

The opening game of the State of Origin series takes place on Wednesday with pubs and hotels expected to be packed across the Fraser Coast to watch all the live action on the big screen.

The clash will be the 100th State of Origin game played, with the mighty Maroons striving towards a ninth-straight series victory.

Pubs have started getting into the spirit, setting up maroon and blue banners and balloons.

Hervey Bay Hotel is hoping for a huge influx of fans with three big screens to choose from and a sausage sizzle for anyone feeling a little peckish, while in Maryborough the Carriers Arms Hotel Motel will be giving people the chance to win prizes with games and competitions.

With the battle lines drawn, all that's left is to grab your mates, head down to your local venue, stretch the vocal chords and see if the cane toads can crush those cockroaches.
