WATCH: King tide hits Hervey Bay beaches on Thursday
WAVES crashed against the rocks in Scarness and Urangan as the 4.2m king tide peaked at 8.55am on Thursday.
The tide rose high under the roadway over Tooan Tooan Creek in Pialba and waves rushed up to the dunes at the All Abilities Playground near the Seafront Oval.
Enzo's on the Beach cafe at Scarness is closed on Thursday and will be closed on Friday.
In Torquay, the usually vulnerable Hervey Bay Surf Lifesaving Club was protected despite a small swell lapping at the beach access walkway.
Dunes of sacrificial sand has been pushed in front of the club.
A small crowd of people stopped at the Urangan seawall to catch a glimpse of the crashing waves.
Although water wasn't coming over the wall it was splashing water into the air.
The extent of any erosion will be revealed as the tide recedes.
Low tide will be at 3.32pm.
