Kingfisher set to welcome Chinese Year Of The Sheep

FRASER Island's Kingfisher Bay Resort has celebrations planned for Chinese New Year this week.

A Kingfisher spokeswoman said on Chinese New Year's Eve, February 18, and the first night of Chinese New Year, February 19, as per Asian tradition, Chinese in-house tour groups will gather for a big family dinner - akin to an Aussie Christmas lunch.

She said executive chef Michael McCalman would serve a special themed menu.

Asian sales manager Laurel Zhang said China continued its dominance of inbound international visitation and the resort had been working hard to promote Fraser Island and the Fraser Coast tourism and nature-based experiences.

"This year, we're pleased to welcome group series business for the Year of the Sheep and will mark the occasion by presenting our Chinese guests with a red envelope with a gift inside." she said.

"This is a traditional gift given during Chinese New Year to wish them good luck for the year."
