Lady Luck the friend who keeps on giving

OPINION: You know those people who win competitions and, through their tears of joy, tell everyone that they can't believe this has happened to them, they never win anything, ever?

I'm not one of those people.

I have an annoying habit of winning almost every competition I enter.

Not for big stuff, like cars, lotto or houses, admittedly, but for small items, I'm a shoo-in.

Don't ask me how or why.

Right here in the Chronicle office, former editor Peter Chapman used to raffle off a nice bottle of whiskey or some cosmetics to raise money for various charities every so often.

I can't remember not winning one of those raffles.

During the past few years, I've won plenty of meat trays at local clubs, a whiskey decanter signed by Queensland Origin legends (disappointing, because I'm a Blues fan), and a Melbourne Storm jersey (also disappointing because I'm a Knights fan).

The Melbourne Cup made me think about my lucky streak, because it also extends to either tipping the winner or picking up a few dollars every year come the big race in November.

From tipping Makybe Diva three years in a row during her impressive winning streak to the office sweeps, I always seem to be lucky this time of year.

I'm wondering if anyone else out there has been bitten by the lucky bug?
