LETTER: Forward thinking needed on issue

I CANNOT believe the nonsense going on re the RVs on the Fraser Coast area.

To read what Stuart Taylor (FCC 15-07-16) stated blew me away.

He certainly does not represent the views of most ratepayers, that’s for sure.

These travellers move all round Australia bringing untold money into each town they visit and if he has any clues about Hervey Bay in particular, he would see the number of small businesses going broke or just hanging in there, who would benefit from having thousands from these people over the year spending their dollars.

Good on Bundaberg, they can see the benefits and are quick to move.

Just follow anyone on Facebook etc who is travelling and it says it all.

They don’t want toilets or flash facilities.

Only a place to spend a night or three perhaps.

They need food, petrol and a safe area.

Put honesty payment boxes and plenty of bins on site.

They don’t leave a mess, or other travellers will smartly tell them they are spoiling it for everyone.

We cannot protect the caravan parks, they have a completely different market and the world is changing so fast, it’s a very competitive world now.

I have suggested to two councillors now, the old drive-in theatre would be ideal to get this going.

Not sure who owns that but please look into it.
