Local groups funded

MILLIONS of dollars have been injected into the Fraser Coast's community support network and more is on the way.

Local organisations which run programs for families and children in crisis will receive a $5m portion of the $1b Regional Development Australia Fund.

Centacare Fraser Coast, Lifeline, the Uniting Church and Foundations Child and Family Support are among the recipients.

Executive officer for RDA's Wide Bay Burnett branch said the chosen projects would not only benefit the local community but the surrounding areas as well.

"With Australia's economy in transition, the Federal Government has strengthened the role of RDA committees which played a major role in working with local communities to identify projects that were consistent with their regional plans," Mr Massingham said

"All applications were required to meet mandatory criteria with eligible applications assessed by an independent advisory panel."

Hinkler MP Paul Neville said it was great to see the funding finding its way into the Fraser Coast and hoped other community organisations in Hervey Bay would continue to receive ongoing funding.

"In recent days, I've met with We Care 2 and Hervey Bay Meals on Wheels, both of which need capital funding to be able to secure new premises so they can expand their services in the community," Mr Neville said.
